Portrait of An Artist:'Shahlah Sutra'

Scottsville, Ky. – Monday, October 12th, Aimee Zapara-Sullivan, known as Shahalah-Sutra, 31, belly dances non-traditional Gothic Fusion style. The American induced style focuses on gothic esthetic. The gestures express emotions that include: being scared, anger, resentment, and acceptance, said Sullivan. “Gothic fusion exercises my physical body and emotions…it allows me to stay grounded in the physical world and stay connected to the ethereal concept.” Dancing has helped Sullivan become healthy mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Aimee is an awesome belly dancer. I met her at Anna's Greek Restaurant dancing on one Thursday night while getting extra-credit for my geography class. We planned the shoot around the light, but the horse walking up in the background was a blessing sent!

Baptist Revival

After a Sunday afternoon revival at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Ky., Abby Booth, 10 (far right), and Trinity Gregory, 9 (right), take moment to hug each other while playing on hay bundles with friends on October 18th, 2009.

Wrestling match

A Wrestling duo take down their opponent during a Showtime All-Star Wrestling (S.A.W.) match in Nashville on October 16th, 2009.

People in Kentucky take their wrestling very seriously. I have seen some wrestlers almost get mobbed by the crowd! The locals don't care if wrestling is improv. Their ready to get in the ring and take out the bad guys!

Light: shadows on campus.
After a long evening in Nashville, I decided to head to the place that has the BEST worst food EVER, my local Waffle House. Being not more than 2-3 miles from a WH is still a novelty to me. Eating at a WH is reminiscent of my times with the carnival. A place I only stopped at only before or after working a show. I still think they have the best grits.

And Kenny said "go capture light!"

Farmers Market

This Mennonite man's face was super adorable.

My first experience at the farmers market in Bowling Green. I must support my local farmers!

Community

While hiking in the Cumberland Mountains in Pickett State Park, one needs to keep hydrated. This was my first official backpacking/hiking trip!!!
Tailgating...

This was shot for my "community" assignment. These guys were caught by campus police having beer bottles during tailgating. Bad Boys!
